I
am a 36 year old man who watched OLTL religiously for nearly 20 years
up until a few years ago. I'd go back to watching it, but I'd have to
hog the VCR to do so -- and I think my wife would have a few things to
say about that!
I was absolutely in love with both Jessica ("Meagan") Tuck and, of
course, my "namesake" Marty played by Susan Haskell.
I
hadn't really thought about Susan or Marty in a long time. I am now a
staff writer with a small-town newspaper and our Lifestyles editor ran
a publicity shot the other day for a play called "The Dayporch" -- a
funny play about four women in a rather Hitchcockian situation. Anyway,
while three of the actresses are obviously older ladies, the fourth
looked exactly like Susan to me. The editor insists that the woman in
the picture is "older than she looks" and is from Folly Beach, SC. The
woman's name is Chris Weatherhead and the resemblance is uncanny.
Anyway,
that picture got me thinking about Susan and her work on OLTL. I
decided to do some searches on the 'Net and found your site. It's
wonderful! I've never seen such a beautifully maintained site that pays
such loving homage to a remarkable actress. I enjoyed reading all your
personal accounts of meeting her and seeing the pictures. And, although
I won't get to see them, I was happy to hear she was rejoining Thorston
on the air on Port Charles.
To be honest, one of the other
reasons I could "allow" myself not to watch OLTL anymore was because
Marty was no longer in Llanview. Thank goodness she had "taken Meagan's
place" after Jessica Tuck left, because I would have stopped back then.
At least as of two years ago, something felt like it was missing from
the show. Perhaps the characters of Jessica Buchanan or, certainly,
Kelly Cramer, have helped to fill in the blanks, but not as much as I
would like.
There was something about the storylines -- the
passion -- that actresses like Jessica and Susan brought to the screen.
Certainly (and as I writer myself, you would expect me to say this
anyway) the writers back then did excellent work. But Susan brought it
to life.
Congratulations on a wonderful site and if Susan's out
there reading ... I'm very happy to know that you're doing so well and
looking forward to seeing your re-appearance on JAG (a character I
thought had excellent potential as opposed to Harm's current love
interest).
Sincerely,
